Strange trailer for a great movie.
Despite the fact that James Coburn has the title role, it is not much larger than those of the other actors. And Susannah York can hardly be called "his bird". That may have raised false expectations and actually have been counterproductive (the movie didn't do very well at the time). It may not be as profound as PERFORMANCE (also written by Donald Cammell), but it has just as much style and is lighter in tone.
I assume that Columbia regarded Coburn, since he was the only American in the cast, as the most likely draw for the US audience. The tagline ("Relax. It's only a movie."), the narrator's voice, the visuals and the music are cool though. And notice James Fox's amusing reaction when Coburn punches John Alderton.

Update 16 January 2011: I think that Susannah York never looked lovelier than in this movie. RIP.
No copyright abuse intended, but if the owners mind, the video will be deleted, of course.
Thanks. A movie fun with 3 James: Fox,Mason and Coburn
