When I was thirteen (1967) I knew I was gay. I grew up in a Mennonite / Pennsylvania Dutch community and the worst thing you could be was gay. I planned a suicide, but it was my mothers love that kept me from carrying out what I wanted to end the fiasco. No one knew but me, but I have a mother's love to thank for the days that I enjoy with a partner of 23 years, 2 daughters, 3 grandchildren, and an adopted son. Life is great .. but it's because of a mother. Religion had nothing to do with it, but was the cause of those thoughts. Bottom line, Religion sucks and mothers are the greatest thing that ever happened to us.
There will never be anyone like my Mother. She is my hero.
