Natalie, The Illusion speed paint/time lapse video
Full size image at:
http://martono.deviantart.com/art/Natalie-Imbruglia-94739922
Original length: 338 minutes
Music: Natalie Imbruglia - Torn

Tools of trade: just the usual photoshop cs3 and wacom bamboo fun a5 wide.
Natalie is one of the cutest singer/celeb around, it's a shame that her only one hit was "Torn". Well let's just don't forget about her, enjoy the video!

FAQ!!!!!!!!!!

Q: Is it necessery to have photoshop?
A: No, there are a lot of programs, cheaper and freeware whith wich you can draw. Live GIMP, open canvas, painter, art rage etc.

Q: What kind of brushes do you use, are they special or so, can I get them?
A: Yes, no, yes. I use mostly basic soft and hard brushes, however I made some costum brushes for myself. If you want you can download it from here:

Q: Can you recommend a tablet?
A: You should buy a wacom tablet which you can afford, or a genius. It's really up to you, everything is better than a mouse (except a TRUST tablet, you shall never buy that!!!). If you are a beginner and just want to try it out, buy a genius tablet, if you are really into it, buy any wacom which you can afford.

Q: How did you learn to do this, are you attending art classes or so?
A: I only learnt basic drawing in elementarty school. I don't think I have any special skills, it's just I always liked to draw, and I always want to get better at it. Practice, practice. I try out new stuff, and watch other talented people's videos, reading tutorials, so on. You can do that, too, just don't give up :)!

Q: What do you use to capture the painting process?
A: at the moment Camtasia, but im not really pleased with it, too many corrupted files. Seeking alternate program atm.

  • what size bamboo fun would you recommend, or doesn't itreally matter?

  • the one you can afford :), Bambu fun a5w works fine for me on a 22" tft.

  • What's wrong with Trust?

Do they break easier or work not as good?

  • Trust tablets are inacurate. If you cannot afford a Wacom Bamboo a6, then buy a genius tablet, but never "Trust". It's a piece of shit compared to other brands and products.

  • Sorry wanted to reply to your original comment, but i have removed it by mistake. So try to find a shop where you can actually try out these products. That can help a lot to decide and actually see the tablet's capability.

  • Fantastic! You did a beautiful job and very clever to do Natalie for us WITH her song playing in the background! :-)

  • Torn O_O Love that song, but the One Direction version is the best.

  • What an inspirational display! I just picked up a bamboo fun yesterday and your video is part of why! I can sketch this sort of thing with a pencil, but doing it on the computer is a huge adjustment. How did you do the eyes? It's so fast I can't tell what tool you're using... it's like they just went from a solid color to being fully textured and glossy. Please share some of your methods!

  • ...wow...

(im dumb, i never thought of using facial guidelines when i draw faces *facepalm*)

  • she smiles less as she gets older. sad

  • whats thge song?

  • @KaoruHUN

are genius tablets good for a begginer

  • I...I hate this song...but I adore this video. Excellent work. :)

  • After all that you couldn't give her whiter teeth?!

    Great job

  • Very good work! I have to make do with a Wacom A6. I would really like to have a new A5.

I see this vid is like 2 years old now, but if you're still looking for good tools, here's my toolset: Linux (OS) + Gimp (drawing) + Xvidcap (screen recording) + Kdenlive (video edit).

All tools are completely free, and work like a charm! I remember Camtasia, always corrupting files and crashing! Instead, these linux tools just work. So I'd recommend it.
