TRUTH is, chahine was born in alexandria to an egyptian father of lebanese origins and a GREEK mother. but it doesnt matter what his origins were.. like he wrote for the charecter of hani salama in (El Akhar) "ana e7'tart akoun masry", and like many of his films, the charecters often reflect some aspects of his own life as he said "the charecters are part of me and come from within me". I am an Egyptian, and i am offended by all those ignorent, intollerable egyptians on this site.. sorry lebanon

When Youssef Chahine may he rest in peace, travelled to Lebanon for sometime; he refused to direct any films as he mentioned that he does not have any idea about the Lebanese mentality. He then agreed to make baya3 el khawatem for the amazing fairouz, as it was a musical.
A person who JUST sees 7adouta Masreya would never see Chahine as a Lebanese, with all due respect to your country. We do have a culture of our own.
