Joe Simpson and climbing partner Simon Yates made a first-ascent of the previously unclimbed West Face of the Siula Grande, in the Peruvian Andes. On the descent, Simpson broke his leg in a storm, the two became separated.
Simpson received numerous operations as a result of the injuries sustained. The doctors told him he would never climb again and he would have trouble walking for the rest of his life. After 2 years of rehab, he was back on the mountains.

@BartholomewCounty: I wonder why someone who was deaf and blind would subscribe to a philosophy that called for cooperation and sharing? Helen Keller was obviously plotting some sort of toppling of our capitalist system ..... can't believe she wasn't jailed for that.
