A 12 year old Amber Caparas performs her award winning one-girl performance of the historic meeting and dialogue between Galileo Galilee and Cardinal Robert Bellarmine in 1616, concerning Galileo's teachings against the Vatican's long held defense of Aristotle's grossly erroneous teachings. The meeting helped Galileo skirt execution during the church's Inquisition against scientific thought. Amber wrote and staged the performance, and also created all the props and artwork with assistance only from her father. Amber plays the 52 year old Galileo in full costume, and provides the voices of Bellarmine and a servant using a previously taped recording that she operated from a boom box hidden in her staging materials. Smart kid for sure. The final monologue is inspiring, so please watch it through to the end. This 3rd round performance was held at the South Carolina State Finals of the National History Day competion, held in Columbia, SC in the spring of 2002.
