  • Moral is subjective, here is a great example. In the 1400 murder was ok, if it was revenge. In modern time, murder is not ok. Not because God said it, but because we said it. THe bible contains so much diferent morality that it will fit any time you put it into.

  • According to Genesis chapter 3 humans would have NO morality if they had not resisted the efforts of god to keep them ignorant. Fortunately after YHVH lied to Adam the serpent told Eve the truth and she and Adam acted upon that truth, and YHVH got pissed off and cursed all of humanity in perpetuity for it. But even so he was obliged to admit that that act of rational independence was of enormous benefit to them: "Behold, the man is become AS ONE OF US, to know good and evil" Thanks, Eve!
  • I'd agree with Shermer that morals exist in a Platonic realm even without a God. However experience teaches me that that majority of people need belief a God to respect those Platonic principles.

  • if you watch the amazing meeting videos you will in fact see that shermer is capable of answering this question himself. the answer is that morals do not depend on religion.
