What better way to fuel an interest in physical activity than to bring a beach ball into the classroom?

Carlos Rodriguez demonstrates how to lead this activity with students in this video, part of the Active Schools Initiative which provides strategies to teachers and students for motivating students to be physically active outside of their physical education classes. http://dpi.wi.gov/sspw/physicaled.html

Grade Level: 4-8
Addresses Physical Education Standard 1 ("Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.")
Requires: 1 Beach Ball

Make certain that students stay seated; it helps keep the game under control. Anything that can be knocked over should also be moved out of the way. Pay close attention to the rules that the teacher explains to the students.

Video produced in 2010-11 by Milwaukee Public Schools with support from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Thanks to Carlos Rodriguez, Rogers Street Academy, and the students!
