  • @fetmabebis like I need some knucklehead telling me what my involvement in 30 years plus of this music is or is not. I was "Punk" before you were in diapers, son.

  • thurston kinda looks like Bill paxton

  • @DrFonzo No provocative lyrics - No punk.

  • @fetmabebis Sonic Youth has been around over 30 years, always done what the hell they want to do with their music with NO compromise. Their lyrics may not be about the angst they feel inside because daddy beat them, but they have a more punk attitude than just about any band ever. Punk today is so dumbed down and mainstream if you say they aren't punk that's fine with me. Green Day and Blink 182 aren't punk either yet they are labeled as such.

  • nothing broke in 1991 except david geffens pockets

  • The Year Punk Broke is right now because I have to watch an ad before a Sonic Youth video

  • @DGENERATE07 I'm talking about they're lyrics. Not really Nirvana, but Sonic Youth.

Now, don't get me wrong - I do enjoy both bands. I have them both in my iPod, and the fact that I think they're a bit pretentious is not that imporant to me.

Just because they're against the corporate world and corporate music, it don't actually mean they're punk. A lot of non-punk bands are against that.

  • @fetmabebis and how are nirvana and sonic youth pretentious? Nirvana and Sonic Youth are all against the corporate world and corporate music, and are definitely raw and simple with their own style. I've thought about the meaning of punk a lot which is interesting though. I do wish bands with major label backing would do a john lennon and try to change the world though

  • @DGENERATE07 No. Any music is, or at least should be, about musical freedom.

Punk is about trying fighting back - the rise of the working class. These bands all just have pretentious songs, with pretentious lyrics. Punk is raw and simple.

I've listened a lot to Nirvana in my life, and I do enjoy them every once in a while, but they're not punk...

  • @fetmabebis what's with all the punk hipsters? the whole point of punk is musical freedom, not sounding like the sex pistols again and again and again. Sonic Youth and Nirvana are legendary punk bands so get over it already
