October 26, 2011, Berkeley, CA: My book talk at the Berkeley Arts and Letters series. Of all the talks I've given, I was happiest about this. If there's one you listen to in this series, this should be the one.

You will not make ANY converts by calling them names. Senator Paul has some great ideas, and stands by his principles more than any living politician. That said, he does not offer any solutions that stand a chance of resolving our current campaign finance crisis. Small donor system Lessig has been putting forward, would fit very nicely with a Libertarian world view. It would re-level the plying field. Paul has not chosen to see systemic corruption as the affront to Libertarianism that it is.

LOL AT PAULTARDS. Have you read the book @kale717? Ron Paul will NOT end corporate personhood, will NOT limit the power of corporatism in government, and will NOT put the interest of the people and public before the private. Look at Rocky Anderson or Buddy Roemer. They are the more qualified individuals to run for POTUS.

Business corruption is the root. Strike there. Most people assume, business naturally leads to competition and that keeps business honest. 'Business corruption is impossible' is the implication. But, the invisible hand is invisible because it isn't there, especially in any arbitrage situation. Fraud causes corruption, so the fraud can continue.

I think that the specific solution proposed is at least workable, something very much like it could work. In any case if enough people look at this and become aware of the problem then any flaws in this solution could be corrected, and other solutions have been proposed.

Please share this video with as many as you can; the plutocracy has been too successful in nourishing and purifying its power & wealth over the past several decades. And, regardless of your typical political leanings, consider supporting Ron Paul - he is the best candidate for President in terms of limiting the power and scope of the corporatist federal government. Doesn't that merit alone outweigh whatever other criticisms you hold of Ron Paul?

A very good assessment of the problems associated with our legislature today. However, I'm concerned that the proposed solution seems a bit too *easy*. I would like to see more information about how these public finance systems work in practice before I would endorse them on a national level.
