  • @just1967me i believe it was his us debut , he defected from russia to italy in 1982 so it sounds correct, after being in the bolshoi theatre he became a member of the met, this was from pique dame if im correct

  • @Applepros HI! I heard Mr. Popov live, in Atlanta, onstage at Symphony Hall, in a Met Opera preview of their annual spring tour. I think he sang an aria from Ernani - this would have been in about 1983. This performance, if I'm remembering correctly, was an important debut for him...maybe his Met debut, or maybe his U.S. debut?? I can't remember exactly...but my memory on all things opera is generally not bad! You might ask him, if you have a chance, if he remembers this.

  • @just1967me yes this tenor is vladimir popov , he is my grandfather, he starred in aida, carmen, and turandot as well delivering a great nessun dorma performance

  • Love her. But really, the scene doesn't work if the Countess dies so obviously. He has to be surprised that something is wrong with her.

  • The tenor's singing is good... yes... but I think it would have sounded much worse if it weren't Regine Crespin, with her amazing dramatic capabilities, listening! Bravo!

  • I believe the tenor is Vladimir Popov. This was from the mid-eighties. It was my first exposure to this opera. WONDERFUL performance and production. If I remember correctly, GianCarlo Menotti directed, also Stefka Evstatieva was in it. I have looked for this for years. PLEASE post more of this performance! (Is there a DVD or video of this available anywhere?)

  • Who is the tenor?
