  • 2 coats instead of one will double the life IF the prep is done perfectly. The thing that causes paint to fail in most cases is the condition of the substrate. A good painter will recommend the right number of coats for your project. 2 is usually recommended for areas that get any significant weathering. Cheers!

  • 2 coats will NEVER EVER give you twice the life it is a pretty good idea to get two coats but it will only somewhat extend the life of the paint job and never double it.

First of all when painting one coat the paint is laid on thicker and in better fashion to cover everything well. When it is known there will be a second coat it is laid thinner and less precise because it is known ther will be a second coat. It definitly cheaper to paint a house w/2 coats at the same time than to paint it twice
