Rule 1: Your leading arm is always leading. It points where you want to go. Your trailing arm should be rotated in front of your chest (when it's trailing, i.e. behind your shoulder line, it slows you down). When going down the line, your arm, which is leading, pulls the line of your shoulders parallel the the axis of your board. When you are then initiating a maneouver, you are then getting getting more extra power from the rotation of your body.
Rule 2: The wave has the most power where it is steepest. You want to always stay in the steepest part. You only want to drop down the face into the flats only when you want to do maneouver and driving hard from the bottom (you are then applying power with your body). Bottom-top-turn combo.
Improvements:
a) When going up the face on your forehand pull your trailing arm up. When going up the face on your backhand, pull your leading arm up.
b) Only move your body at the right instant at the right position on the wave.
c) Compress when going down (front foot pressure), extend when going up (back foot pressure). Pressure means 90% of your body weight.
