Hayley Sales - Just Pretend - Cover by Mike BR-1200

Hi everyone, a friend of mine linked me Hayley's reverbnation page a couple months ago. I fell in love instantly with the song "More than you know".

I actually wanted to do a cover of it back then but never got to it :S
So anyway, the months passed.

Well, turns out Friday september 10th I had the chance to see her in Montreal last minute !
I gotta tell you, I really enjoyed it!
Super cool acoustic set, just her, a guitar
and a ukelele. I had already seen a couple youtube videos so I knew she would rock and totally did!
She was around after the show so I got to meet her, which I thought was pretty awesome.
She was really sweet.


So, anyway, during the show she mentionned that "Just pretend" would be her next single in the upcoming weeks. So I figured I would try to do a cover of it :)

I really ended up LOVING the song a lot more after having to listen to it
over 100 times and trying to learn it haha!
I did a little background check on it, it was written about a love that was far away in Australia and I guess Hayley was stuck in Canada recording the album or whatnot. xD
I'm a sucker for love songs.

I think you should check her out if you want some great music!
Maybe it's just me but I find her voice just really insane!
Great melodies and all!
By the way she writes ALL her songs!
And works on the producing the albums
as does her father who is a great musician as well
(Plus he looks like Santa Claus)!
So it's Hayley Sales all the way on the albums!

She just totally has a great contagious vibe in her music and has a really interesting background.

Hey, as for the cover, hmm... I dunno, I really like what I got going with the intrumental part :D
As for the vocals ? Meh . The key feels wrong to me.
It was tough to sing "clearly".
I'm rarely objective and WAY too critical!
So feel free to give contructive criticism.

It's very easy for me to focus on the things I don't like.

Still proud overall as always. :D
But you should DEFINITELY check out the real one !
It doesn't even begin to compare!! Great stuff!

So on my cover I had :
3 guitar tracks
1 bass track
2 for the main vocals
2 different backup vocals

As always I'm limited to 8 tracks on the BR-1200
Which is one of the reasons I don't have much wiggle room on vocals.
Ideally, I feel I would need 4 tracks just for the vocals to make the sound complete but without being too loud.
