A rushed opening of the hive to add a second deep brood box. This Flip(ping) software still won't allow more than 10 minutes, so I had to trim severely.
I found queen cells & destroyed them, but looked at just one frame.

  • So when you find those queen cells does that mean that part of the hive would take off with her (swarm) once she was ready to leave?

  • @PaintedRavensong Yup. See the new video! The swarm starts when the resident queen detects a new queen 'piping' during the last day or so before she emerges. So the old queen leaves to find a new home.

Those queen cells I found must have been much younger than the one that triggered the swarm. Makes sense if that frame had only been in there for a week, which is what I believe.

  • Well, there are lots of shoulds in life. With a 6-inch tripod and filming alone, I didn't really consider camera position very much. Thanks for taking an interest.
