Robert Stevenson - LEGEND

The video brought back great memories for me - I am a Steeplejack and It was my home for a month ( two fortnight stints)after the fire in 1988. We repaired all the heat damaged stonework at the top - Fed and watered by the two lighthouse keepers - total isolation from the outside world I wish I was a bit older at the time to really appreciate it.

@nathanh216 Its really cool actually, they built it with that challenge, which is why it is one of the seven wonders of the industrial world. The rock that it sits on is only above the water for a short amount of time.

There is a BBC doco about the construction, the workers could only work on the foundations for something like 5 hours a day and lived in a hut constructed on a large stilt, there was some argy bargy between the two designers.

The lighthouse is made of granite it would take some strong bird droppings to erode that.

@nathanh216 indeed, the reef upon which it lies is beneath the sea most of the time.

Aye, they usually run in the summer from Arbroath harbour. Or you could get a small group of you to charter one.
