This is a short clip of Air Atlantique Classic Flight's historic Dakota "Papa Yankee" taking off from Speke Airport, Liverpool, at about 2.05 pm on Sunday 24th June 2007. You can't see all that much - but you sure can hear that good old Pratt & Whitney bellow!!

  • That Dakota is an amazing aircraft, is that the BBMF Dakota that's now based at Coningsby Lincolnshire (I think)? If it is, we used to see it alot when it was based at Barkston in 2000 or there abouts. I've got to ask because I'm ex RAF and there's not that many still flying in the UK. I love Dakotas.

  • Hi!

    Thanks for your comment.

This is an ex-RAF Dakota that was bought by Starways Ltd of Liverpool after the war and operated by them up to the 1960's. I'm not sure of its history since then, but it's now owned and operated by Air Atlantique Classic Flight at Coventry.

I flew in this aircraft to Lourdes in France in 1957, and I got the chance to fly in it again last summer when it came to Liverpool - almost exactly 50 years later! This video was made on that occasion.
