July, 1988, KMOT-TV, Minot, ND - Another try on my part to capture the spirit and mood of carnival rides at the North Dakota State Fair. An earlier effort from 1986 is also available on my YouTube channel. This time around, I wanted to mix motion with music to capture the excitement of the rides. I had my videographer go on and tape as many rides as he could stomach, along with ground level action shots and shots of people on the rides. There would be no narration -- I used some opera for a music bed. I couldn't tell you what the piece was from or even what was being sung -- what mattered was the overall mood and momentum of the singing and music which, in my mind at the time, matched the video of people and carnival rides in motion. It still wasn't exactly what I envisioned, but it came pretty darn close. Transferred from 3/4 inch videotape via ADVC 300 and into iMovie HD. From Keith Darnay's personal video collection.

That ride at 34 is called the Orbiter. The next ride shown is the Thunder Bolt....along the lines of a Flying Bobs.
