Science show demonstrators:
Dr. A. P. Towns, J. Curry, Dr. J. Rose and G. C. (Cal) Sibley.

The programme was recorded by the Swinburne Audio Visual Department using Philips video 80 system. Circa 1978.

A demonstration of magnetic force using a large, weak horseshoe magnet and a steel rod.

A demonstration of an interesting type of electromagnet.

  • Hi HifiCentret. This film was made in 1978 so it's quite possible that some of the concepts are out of date! We've made it available here for archival purposes but it probably shouldn't be relied upon for scientific accuracy.

  • When is this video from? He claims that every electric motor in the world works because of magnetic force. No longer true(!) If we skip exotic no practical use ion motors etc. there's still the piezo motor. Used by Nikon and Canon to focus SLR lenses etc. They're silent (to human hearing at least) and robust.
