A stock GT-R can expect high 12s to low 13s depending on launch as scathing said cromps does not launch it hard, these cars will constantly sustain a 7000 rpm launch been there and done that, if you watch the vid carefully you can see there is very little lift from the front of the stock GT-R but when these things are launched at high RPM the back drops and the front end goes up much higher than we see in this vid.but yer i agree cromps you were a pussy on this one.

@scathing Neil's driving the Pulsar isn't he? Not the GT-R
-
Back then, they had no idea what ABS actually did
-
why did they match 2 gtr r32 skylines against a standard pulsar,I mean this pulsar wasnt even a GTIR obviously its not going to do well, would of been a different storey if it was a GTIR pulsar

I have puchased a Wheels May 2009 magazine today. It has the Nissan R32 GT-R winfield group A race car in it. It states that the race car can do 0-60km/h in 1.6 sec, 0-100km/h in 3.2 sec and the standing 400m in 10.99 sec @ 215km/h. It also states that Power is between 350-450kW @ 8000rpm and Torque is between 558-640Nm @ 5000rpm depending on boost setting. So all my questions that I had before have now been answered!

crommy was driving the pulsar. he didn't do too bad! aussie gtr was slower than the imported ones standard. thats how they launched at the grid of regular races. slipping the clutch at lower rev's rather than dumping at high rev's gave the quickest take off with the race prepped gtr. i witnessed skaifey perfecting his launch technique way back in '90 at amaroo. the car would bog at any rev with clutch dump. slicks and gearing would have something to do with this.

standard gtr's are only quick if u dump the clutch at redline. otherwise they are a heavy under powered car(standard!). if crommy got his launch technique right there wouldn't be that much between the 2 standard nissans in that race.sr20 pulsars were a quick thing. my father managed a 15.6 in his dead stock pulsar Q.the TI pulsar was a little heavier than the Q though. gtr driver walked off the line to protect it no doubt. back then the gtr was stupidly expensive to buy and fix.

what the hell was Crompton doing? Slow, very slow.
-
The standard GTRs that is, not the race spec'd ones lol.

Yes, they are certainly not dropping the clutch at 7k RPM :) I found it amusing to watch the little pulsar jump ahead because of the two Rs easing in the clutch carefully. Stock GTRs are low to mid 13s. I can understand why they didn't drop the clutch though in the Rs - they were still worth about 100k each as new cars :) I still would've done it though ;)
14.2? Neil Crompton is a pussy. And that launch....was he worried about messing his bad hair or something? The GT-R will take a 7000RPM clutch dump.
Maybe that's why he gave up racing and went into commentating.

What time can a GT-R make with a good launch? I've noticed that every 1/4 mile time wheels have ever published has been alot slower than possible. But they test with two big guys and a full tank of fuel

Not entirely sure what the fastest is. 14.2 is 350Z time, and I know a stock R32 is faster. Less weight, more off-the-line traction.
And in this video, they weren't testing two up inside. You can see from the launch that the GT-R wasn't trying. Even with the Pulsar beating the GT-R on RT and coming off the line faster, with a 7000RPM clutch dump the GT-R would have reeled the Pulsar in within a carlength had Neil been paying attention to the fact that he's in a drag race.

Yeah I see your points but I think they would have they ran the 14.2 by testing each car individually with a 5th wheel rather than this race for the cameras. Anyway 10.99 from the race car is pretty quick :)
