Gee, this is so sad... So young, and having to endure things many adults can't even imagine doing :S But guess you could see it from the bright side... At least she grows up with it, instead of having to adapt to it later if she had gotten it at an older age. I really don't know what to say :(
I appreciate this video, it is one I share with my nursing students every year. I cannot imagine how difficult this would be for Emma and your entire family. Thank you for sharing your struggles and joys

@ljdnau Thank you for sharing our story and educating future nurses about the reality of type 1 diabetes! Emma is now a six year-old pumping princess. Our struggles continue with her health and autoimmunity, but overall she is doing well. I have a blog at waytoosweet.blogspot.com with our ongoing journey.

I cannot describe what I felt when I watched this video. I can only say that a couple of tears rolled down my face...
I'd like to know how diabetes was diagnosed? Thanks.

She was excessively thirsty, wanting bottle after bottle of milk. We knew it was a symptom of diabetes right away, (my husband has type 1 diabetes), but never imagined it could happen to an infant. We took her to her pediatrician right away and lab work confirmed that her blood sugar was 700 and she was heading into DKA.
We were very lucky that we caught it before she was critically ill.
Thanks for the post!
