Happy hummingbirds in Los Angeles, summertime. About two dozen hummers-- of different species, including Anna's Hummingbird, Costa's Hummingbird and Rufous Hummingbird -- flit in and out to feed. This video was taken in late evening, one of their favorite feeding times when the loud humming noise is a delight as they dive to get nectar. You'll notice that of the two feeders, they prefer the one with the trumpet shaped plastic flowers, although they empty both of them daily. During hot months, our bird visitors sip 2 quarts of nectar (colored sugar water) a day... sometimes more. When I hang the refilled feeders, they fly around my head and start sipping from the "flowers" even as I'm hanging the bottle up. Many of the birds are probably visitors from further north, migrating east to the desert or down to Mexico to overwinter there. Did you know that hummingbirds only live in North America? Did you know that although they do have feet, they never walk? They perch. And they fly. Please share with your friends if you've enjoyed seeing my happy hummers.
Thanks for viewing! Please share with your friends. Happy birds!

There were even more birds swarming the trumpet feeder for breakfast this morning. But as soon as one of the blue jays that live in the trees pops up on the scene, the hummers simply vanish. That jay has a bad rep!

The audio still isn't loaded -- it's taking a long time. I hope you'll check back tomorrow because the song I picked is great! :-) Evelyn
