  • @IonoTheFanatics Yeah, like the Irish 2nd Brigade were purposely given smooth bore Springfields because they wanted them to move closer into the fight instead of just staying back and firing and at Antietam the 2nd Irish Brigade used many times buck and ball like at the Bloody Lane they charged in and fired buck and ball point blank into Anderson's Brigade in the Bloody Lane.

  • @AUG351 and firing from cover is only natural since by the time of Civil War, rifles were much more common and practical than they had been before...

but given that the advancement came in such a short period, the tactics were not adapted yet for them and still based on the older smoothbore guns and that's assuming they had enough guns to equip the unit, since to the best of my knowledge they had serious shortage especially early in the war for up to date rifles.

  • @AUG351 yeah but that's fire by rank, not fire by file...

neither technically are used with consistent use throughout the period just like the period before it when it comes to massed firing under war condition where chaos is quick to follow all but the most disciplined troops, but they are taught and utilized if the situation fits their use.

  • @IonoTheFanatics They almost never used fire by rank in the Civil War, they usualy were in a file of 2 ranks deep when in combat and started with a volley then fired at will. They were tought this in training but in battle it was allot easier and less confusing to just use a volley and fire at will. Although many times in Civil War battles they didn't fight in formations and used trenches and fired from cover.

  • 1st LT, you need to work on your respiratory pauses.

  • oh ok

  • lol 0:15 bang

  • @theirondukesboy if you mean fire by file, that's done often as far back as napoleon era or earlier still though not always used for all infantry.

what the video doesn't show is that firing by file when done in massed formation where men can be stacked sometimes 3 or 4 ranks deep results in continuous volume of fire downrange as the file that starts first will finish reloading by the time the other end file finishes and fires again.

  • @TennesseeReb1862 Shutup reb scum.

  • LOL 69
