The defense rested its case Thursday in the federal mortgage fraud trial involving former Jackson County Executive Katheryn Shields.
KMBC's Micheal Mahoney reported that Shields testified for slightly more than an hour.
Prosecutors claim Shields and her husband, Phil Cardarella, were part of a mortgage fraud scheme involving the sale of the couple's home last year. Shields told the court that she had very little involvement in the sale. She said she left selling the property to her husband.
Earlier in the day, Cardarella testified. Cardarella said that Shields' role in the sale was "virtually nonexistent." He said she was interested in other things at the time. Shields was preparing to run for mayor in 2007 and she was finishing her third term as Jackson County executive.
