ISLAM IN BANGLADESH: 30% of girls married by 13yrs

The goverment of Bangladesh would like to do more for women but it fears it will lose power if it opposes the people. As the country is Muslim,most believe women should not hold jobs, be educated or appear outside the house unless chaperoned, as is mentioned in the Hadiths.

As a practical matter, education is seen as being "wasted on" females, who won't have job opportunities anyway.

The Islamic holy texts (quoted below) , particularly the Hadiths, and even the holy prophet Mohammed himself, said women should not be unaccompanied in public places without their husband or father or another male relative. Creating bad attitudes toward the idea of women holding jobs, even in 2011.

Ihy'a 'Uloum ed-Din by Ghazali, Dar al-Kotob al-'Elmeyah, Beirut, Vol II, Kitab Adab al-Nikah, p. 65. Reported by Tirmizi as a true and good Hadith:
"The woman is 'awrah. When she goes outside (the house), the devil welcomes her."
"A woman is closest to God's face, if she is found in the core of her house.


Hadith: Sahih Bukhari Vol4 : Book52 : Verse250:
Narrated Ibn Abbas: That he heard the Prophet saying, "It is not permissible for a man to be alone with a woman, and no lady should travel except with a Muhram (i.e. her husband or a person whom she cannot marry in any case for ever; e.g. her father, brother, etc.)." Then a man got up and said, "O Allah's Apostle! I have enlisted in the army for such-and-such Ghazwa and my wife is proceeding for Hajj." Allah's Apostle said, "Go, and perform the Hajj with your wife."

Updated: I just got corrected updtaed statistics from the Census 9 yrs ago:
1 in 50 girls are already married by the age of 10.
30% by age 13.
65% by age 15.

@BarclayAvenue the only holy text that does not rely on hadith or other reported actions is the Qur'an. the Qur'an doesn't tell the story of bibi Aisha and so no-one can be sure of when the prophets marriage was consummated.

@saadmaan90 Further there are rules right there in teh Quran in black and white about what is the Iddat protocol for divorcing a prepubescent girl. How can there be rules in Islam for divorcing girls who have not yet menstruated if it was illegal to marry girls who have not yet menstruated.?

@saadmaan90 I think you have something there. You cannot get the complete picture from the two fringes. However, there are millions of Muslims worldwide who approve of child marriage. It is in the Quran. So any Muslim who is a Fundamentalist Muslim must automatically accept it even though child brides get horrible debilitating disorders from having sex at such a young age.
