  • emeinem676, you have one of the few in history! The last one I remember with a clutch (in competition, that is) was Gary Bettenhausen's black #99 pavement car back in the 70's (or early 80's?) ICAR days. The motor was laid over about 45 degrees. You wouldn't have that car, would you? I have a friend with an old 1950's car that he restored and added a driveline with a clutch system, and I've seen a couple of "street legal" sprinters with clutches......thanks for sharing!!

  • No. Sprint cars have no clutch, transmission or starter. They are direct drive. There is a coupler that connects the drive shaft to the rearend but the engine has to be shut off before you can engage it (get the car in gear). Once you engage the coupler, the car is then pushed with a truck to get it started. To shut the car off, you have to disengage the coupler and turn off the fuel valve and run it out of fuel.

  • We raced our midget there a long time ago. Holy, it was 20 years ago. What a great track and great people.

  • you're right backcountry, it is a great place to be. I personally liked the old 1/4mile better but, it is a fabulous facility and great people are running it!

  • @cecil3397 I went to the old track a few times, but I like the new configuration better myself. I still say Haubstadt has the best show I've seen run on a dirt track, and they keep the track nice. Lately I believe they've gotten a little too anal about it and groom and touch it up too much, they don't get a cushion like it used to. I put Lawrenceburg right up there now, they have a good show too and I go up from New Albany a handful of times a year. Good luck next year.

  • @505197 Good to hear from you 505197! hope to see you at the track next season. Our clan sits on the back straightaway for the races at the Burg. Stop over and say hi when you're up there.
