Baseball sized hail fell east and south of Breckenridge, TX on May 5, 2009 which is about 100 miles west of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Hans Schroeder, Steve Miller (OK) and myself rode down in Hans' Ford Expedition. The windshield was a casualty of this hailstorm.

I am a storm chaser from Lansing, MI. You can visit my website at http://www.michiganstormchaser.com for more information about me and full accounts from my past storm chases including video and pictures.

  • how does your insurance respond to damage of windshield. do you tell them it was hail and you where chasing or not? i keep getting told not to tell your insurance about what you do other wise your gonna really get it with them.

  • We just paid for the windshield out of pocket, and didn't make an insurance claim.I wouldn't claim storm damage under insurance anyway.

  • how do you pay for dents in the car from hail???

  • I didn't get the dents on my truck fixed. I just have big hail dents in them now. They're cool.

  • How the hell you get rid of these stupid ads in youtube? Its pissing me off!!

  • @bholcomb14

you should. thats why insurance exist.

  • Wouldn't you be less likely to suffer windshield damage if you stopped the car?

If you're drving then the hail is hitting your car with the vector of whatever forward speed you're driving, plus the downward speed.

  • Man this would be costly everytime a hailstorm destroys a vehicle...

  • we saw that storm...but missed the hail..

    well captured

  • dang... i thought u were joking haha

  • I meant at 00:47. Sorry for the wrong time.

  • Cool! At 00:50 there is some ball lightning on the ground at the bottom right. Look at it!

  • oh cool lol.
