  • Not one of those movies to enjoy or come away uplifted. Cringing all the way through at such a horrendous mother and how any man could believe such dramatics and histrionics. Different era, different perspective. Interesting to watch, like a train wreck. Dunn was fabulous. Thanks.

  • @mvies77 You are welcome. different era, but those kind of manipulative and controlling mothers will never die out. I know at least one living example... with a husband who believes her daramatics and histerics...

  • I can't tell you ecstatic I am at finding this movie. I have not seen this movie in almost 20 years. I used to have a copy of it on VHS that I copied from AMC. I remember I had Dangerous Corner (wonderful movie I wish I could find again), and Sports Parade (another venue for Joel McCrea) all on the same tape. I would have given anything to see the stage production of this play which Laura Hope Crews directed. Thank you so much for posting!!

  • @plmathews Thanks for your wonderful comment. I am glad to have given you something important :)

  • Not your typical drawing-room drama! Many thanks for sharing this gem!!

  • @ChangeAba Oh, I believe there are mother's who smother and control their children and refuse to let them go. I was speaking more of the acting style for the mother. Maybe the mother's extreme dramatics was believeable in the '30's, but I do not believe anyone would believe a mother who acted like that today. Just my opinion, since I have never met a mother so controlling in that way.

  • @lovintap lol that's hysterical!

  • @ChangeAba Thanks for this Movie. Irene Dunne was such a quality Actress even in the 30's! Wow she was teriffic in this!

  • Wish I'd seen this before marrying the "dave boy" I did. Thanks so much for posting this, it was everything I've read it was and more. Love seeing Frances Dee in a meaty role, and Eric Linden is always a pleasure. They were a couple before Frances met Joel, so perhaps some of his angst over losing Hester at the end is based on Eric's own feelings.
