The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) and the Alberta Research Council (ARC) have teamed up to reduce methane emissions from the small landfills throughout the TNRD. ARC is performing a study at two TNRD landfills. Preliminary results are promising showing 80-95% reduction in methane emissions. The technology is cost effective and very simple - basically using one waste stream to treat another.
Jeff Hastings of CFJCTV7 is at the Barriere landfill interviewing Don May of the TNRD and Dr. Salim Abboud of ARC. This news report discusses the preliminary results of the study.
