  • Just bore-sight the gun the old fashioned way first, then scope and fire. No big deal. Pipe on sandbag is not good.

remember to turn your lights off next time.

A few thoughts. If you know much about bore sighting you would know it just gets you on the paper within 100 yards. You're still going to have to zero it. Pipe (barrel) on sandbag shooting within 100 yards isn't going to make a difference. Also... you may want to have your eye sight checked if you think the head lights are on lol.

  • Sorry Jeff you lose points on this vid..... Theres no Heather :(

Serioulsy though whats a good general purpose ammo for a .243 my friend just got 1 and Ive only shot .223 and .308 can you suggest a good weight for a .243 round for me thanx.

Also next time remember..... Heather >8-D

  • @IcabodCrane Awww, come on now Don't want the Christmas Gouge?? I stil have the best shooting with my Remington Model 100/.243 (a hand me down) bought in the 60's with a Kahles scope. Many a coyote been dropped. Don't deer hunt with it basically becasue I don't like deer. Won't hunt elk with it, elk tastes like cow to me. Used my (hand me down) 1913 Springfield .30-06 for this. This my favorite but expensive to shoot.

(Cont) as for gyroscopic actions at 100-300 yards it's not going to make a -big- difference...but you will notice that overstabilizing rounds in a .30-06 will give you a bit wider groupings from time to time. Granted it's going to be well within 2 moa regardless with good ammo, but I'm the type who'd much rather have 1 or less from a bolt since it's almost impossible to find a good bolt that wont do it with the right loads. You can get close in a bad Mosin with good reloads.

I'm a huge fan of the .243, I'm getting one in a Rem 7400/750 as soon as the Christmas Gouge is over. They're one of my favorite rounds for the fact that they'll work for varminting, they're inherently accurate, and with a DTAC 115 around 3000 you're getting .357 energy at 1000 yards. Granted my .30-06 is the Elk/Bigger gun, but it really can't do much better at those ranges without ridiculously well made bullets...we're talking 208 Hornady or 177 GC customs (which I intend to try)

  • @IcabodCrane Sadly, most people who go buy guns have absolutely no idea what a twist rate is and does. This is where my comment about competition shooters. Someone hunting a couple hundred yard out will not be affected gyroscopic action but go out a thousand and you will be.

  • @IcabodCrane I would be calling the .243 a 'girl's caliber' In Scotland it is the largest caliber for civilian ownership. It is used to take Red Deer which can weigh over 500lbs, somewhere between a large mule deer and a small elk.

  • @Jeff3230

I'm surprised more people are bitching about you sandbagging your rifle rather than the old ".243's for girls" crap. I mean shit do they think you're trying to dome a Prime Minister with a .243 breech loader LOL? You'd think some of these kids would know that breech loaders don't make for very good long range shots with all this talk of barrel harmonics...I mean maybe if you were hunting Elk at 500 yards with a .300 win mag light-pipe I'd be less likely to laugh at these comments.

  • @Robbob9933

I'd have to disagree with only competition/sniper type shooters needing to know their twist, but then again I'm a bit finicky about my bullet selection and accuracy. A lot of people get mediocre accuracy from a .30-06 simply due to using slugs more suited for a 1-12, similar to how people will get mediocre terminal affect from a cheap or unsuitable bullet for the game. Now I will agree most people think they can freefloat a barrel and get sniper shots with Sellier and Bellot lol.

  • @Jeff3230 every little bit counts

  • haha good job putting your barrel on the sandbag best way to inaccurately sight in a rifle
