Because they didn't sell it. It was never theirs to begin with. Universal Studios had all rights to Crash Bandicoot. Read up on how publishers work.

I'm crying right now. This game means a lot to me, I didn't have any friends, so all I did was play my PSone all day long and now I hear this I just burst into tears. I thank Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games for rescuing my youth. But still I don't get it why they sold their amazing franchises to those shitty game developers who truly raped it in the a-hole.
