@dmuellerstl - LOVE IT! This is the same model that I inherited from my Father. I'm just starting off this it; although, I have some musical experience. Thank you for the video post!

It does come easier with that background knowledge of guitar, but it is a different monster when it comes to the picking hand, and the tuning is completely different as well. I grew up playing rock guitar before getting into mandolin, so it was a struggle at times for me to adjust to the type of wrist motion and pick grip the mandolin requires for producing good tone and volume. I'd be happy to tell you more about the technique if you decide you want to learn. :D

can i play a mandolin , if i know how to play a guitar?
-
that "S" stands for "sunburn" - colour of mandoline. but is should probably has a solid top

Man, I can't believe how good that thing sounds for 300 bucks. Not half bad.

you're in the wrong environment. you're supposed to play this in the fence with a pipe in your mouth in front of a barn. Seriously, that's awesome.

Hi. The amount of tension at the nut and over the fingerboard is determined by the headstock angle. I would research what the angle is and compare it to some more expensive models. I never noticed it being difficult to play due to string tension, but I played guitar for many years and have a lot of strength in my hands so I could have just not noticed. The mandolin was a great learner, and I'd recommend it. Thanks for subscribing! Feel free to post back with other questions! Good Luck!

Hi I´m new to Mandolin and I´m thinking about buying this fender model. I heard that this model creates a high string tension is that true?
I like your playing a lot! Great Job!
If you want you could check my channel I recorded 2 songs using a brazilian mandolin that I borrowed from a friend. Best wishes and congratulations!

Great playing. You really have your own "voice".

pretty good work... lets have some more.
Is that an FM-53S, I just ordered one to learn on? It sounds pretty sweet, I've heard some folks say that Fender mando's weren't all that good, but I guess an experienced player can make it sound good. Kudos. How long have you been playing?

Yes, it's the FM-53S. The "S" stands for solid top, I think? Which makes sense to me because the solid top gives it a decent sound for a learner instrument. The back and sides are laminated plywood and looks like mahogany. I have been playing mandolin for about 4 years (guitar for about 17).
If your'e just starting out, Id be happy to answer any questions you might have on mandolin technique or whatever else! Stop by to check for new videos soon! I plan to upload more in the next couple weeks!
