Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden vocalist), is taken in QinetiQ's facilities, for a "ride" in their centrifugal. All this, just to test how a space flight would be for the average flyer, in the era where space travel is promoted by so many companies.

How would our favourite pilot/rock star fare as an astronaut ?

  • I love Bruce he is my hero!!!

  • Because it is the outside of the centrifuge which creates the force. If you go to a children's playground and go on the roundabout you can stand up in the dead middle of it and be alright. Go to the outter edge of it and you will get pulled off it. That's because the circumference you turn in the middle is much lower than when on the outside, so therefore the G force is much lower and the centrigufal force will hardly affect you.

  • My turn my turn :P

  • If Bruce can't take it... then I wouldn't be able to either :/ Bruce is my hero!!!! \m/

I will admit this reminded me of a scene near the beginning of Moonraker where Bond went in one of these and tried to hit the chicken switch but it just went faster and faster. Terrifying :/

  • @GuillermoAugustoBA thats my dad!

  • There are different kinds of "g." The g that he's experiencing here is actually NOT what an astronaut, lying on their back at liftoff, would feel. This g he's getting is what a fighter pilot feels in a tight change of direction (in a climb or a turn). Racecar drivers feel an even different kind of g that pushes them to one side or another. Three kinds of g, three different axises involved.

  • In the vid Bruce looks like a RAF WWII pilot xD
