No, the problem is that Jesus never told his followers to use pre-emptive violence and murder your enemies, he said to love them, not shoot them. I'm not saying it's not sensible, I'm saying it's not Christian. Not even close.

There is a very simple point here. Are you fine upstanding Americans or are you Christians? You really can't be both. The Christian message of love thy neighbour and turn the other cheek leaves you defenceless against violent religious nutters. Whenever Christians fight they are abandoning the teachings of their supposed inspiration. There is nothing Christian about American violence and anybody who tries to suggest there is is a poor Christian.
