One of the last significant groups from Thelen has been picked up by Pittsburgh's Reed Smith. Thelen labor and employment chair Linda Husar, and Los Angeles managing partner Thomas Hill, will join Reed Smith along with three other partners and four associates.
Partners Remy Kessler and Steven Katz will join Husar and Hill at Reed Smith's Los Angeles office. Partner Deborah Broyles will work in Reed Smith's San Francisco office.
Husar and Hill split a book worth between $5 million and $10 million, with Kaiser Foundation Health Plan as a significant client.
All of the group's clients are expected to transition to Reed Smith, including big players from the financial services, health care and retail industries.
Reed Smith has 100 labor and employment lawyers nationwide, but the nine-attorney group from Thelen doubles its employment practice in California.
An industry insider familiar with Thelen said most of the highly attractive groups at the firm have now found new homes, only three weeks after the firm collapsed. After a year of significant partner departures, Thelen announced in October that it would dissolve December 1st.
