In 1981 this was actually marketed as "The Polish Cube" (when "Pollock jokes" were just starting to lose favor; today they're called "Blonde jokes"; I see no difference, really). I had an office in tiny campus with a Polish deli whose owner was addicted to trying to solve the Rubik's Cube. I took a risk (of offending him) and bought him a "Polish Cube" and gave it to him. I've never seen anybody laugh so hard. Back then we had no "how-to" books or vids for the Cube so you were on your own.
