In 1985, at the tender age of 13, Mat Hoffman entered into the BMX circuit as an amateur, and by 16 he had risen to the professional level. Throughout his storied career, Hoffman has ignored conventional limitations, instead, focusing his efforts on the purity of the sport and the pursuit of "what's next." His motivations stem purely from his own ambitions, and even without endorsements, cameras, fame and fans, Hoffman would still be working to push the boundaries of gravity. Academy Award nominee Spike Jonze and extreme sport fanatic Johnny Knoxville, along with director Jeff Tremaine, will showcase the inner workings and exploits of the man who gave birth to "Big Air."

  • this dude is an the definition of all-out dedication. he risks his life for the sport he loves. this is what god wants us to do with our lives. find something we love and grab it with both hands

  • @nitrotard458 *cryes*

  • that crash at the end is so bad. i seen clips of it edited before but never in its enterity. so lucky to be alive is Mat.

  • @dennyd71 Actually I skip this part almost every time I watch this video, its kinda shocking to see fall and his was like a doll with no control, and his wife crying... but Mat is really lucky indeed.

  • I don't care what anyone says,Without Mat Hoffman BMX would not be what it is today.Mat sacrificed so much for the sport.Nobody put in as much dedication as he has for BMX.I won't be surprised if you see him busting 10 foot airs above coping at 50!

  • @tclbmx i skip that aprt also..he seems like such a good soul ..it hurts to see a guy like that hurt on the ground and his wife crying..etc Really hard to watch:'(

  • Holy Shit Mat! Goddamn bro!

  • I like how he finally questioned himself.

  • omg

  • @huludicidal im not saying that mirra is better at all they are the pioneers of the sport and of course hoffman is better that mirra, can ayone do a 900 no hander now?

  • @Anameicanhave Not to be a dick but Mirra didn't do anything compared to a quarter of what Hoffman did. Hoffman even did the first double peg grind down a handrail.
