Students in my Sound 1 class at MICA recorded sounds in Baltimore's Bolton Hill and surrounding neighborhoods, then transformed the sounds and combined them with sine tones, developing a collection of related audio tracks to be played back with varying degrees of perceptibility as part of a guerilla sound installation. The experiment focused on collapsing neighborhood boundaries, accentuating the tensions between the enclave of Bolton Hill and its surrounding areas. Some students gathered as customers at the b bistro, while others sat on surrounding stoops, playing back audio from hidden sources and gradually raising the volume. Other students in vehicles cruised the neighborhood.
