@devinewolf80 Wayne intended to enlist but his career was on the rise in the early-forties, so he felt he wasn't able to join contemporaries Jimmy Stewart, John Ford, Robert Montgomery and other major Hollywood players who joined the armed forces.
Anybody can "quit"...you just stop getting paid...

@devinewolf80 The John Wayne I know is a racist and I proved that already...Plus he could have opted out of his contract to serve in the military...but he didn't so to think that he was so heartbroken about it is crazy....

The United States of America is still the greatest nation on the face of the Earth, She is blessed by the hand of God, and we are privileged to be Americans, Most of us have served in her military to protect the freedoms we inherited from previous generations. Those generations were and are Heroes. God Bless the United States of America!!!!

@freein2339 no as long as you are in a legal binding contract the military can not touch you unless it is for something criminal and they are bringing you back... all those people either did not up there contract or was released by who ever they had a contract with...

@devinewolf80 The military does not yield to studios or contracts...That's why Ted Wiliams and several other baseball players went to to war..so that's a weak excuse...

@freein2339 his studio did not release him from his contract to go fight... it plagued him the rest of his life... that is why is was a out spoken supporter of the troops...you should read a book about him... maybe you learn about the real John Wayne not the one you think you know!!!

@Rebel4USA To be fair from what I understand Wayne tried to get in Annapolis but he was not accepted...He could have still joined but he didn't....I was under the impression that any injuries he had was used as an excuse for not joining sooner...However , that being said he's still a racist.....That's my point....
