I don't think the movie was really trying to take any side. I think that it was sort of just telling a story.

Plenty of people that have never smoked get terminal cancer. It isn't ONLY caused by smoking.

Nicotine is not a product, it's a poison. Its not a preference, but rather more like a trap. Also, it's not a life style, it's a disease, the disease of addiction, and if that is ok, selling heroin to the weak, poor, and defenseless, should be fine also. It should be legal to take poison, but not sell it, and seat belts should be sold, but not mandated. Oh, and we don't tolerate Christians, it's just that we haven't figured a way to stamp them out yet.

Environmentalist pussy.

The smoking industry is too powerful and too influencial for them to allow it to become illegal. There is proof that cancer is a direct result of smoking; however, it is still legal. Smoking is not only an addiction, it is made to be so. They put enough Nicotine in the cigarettes so that someone will become addicted, however not become sick directly from it. Smoking won't become illegal, but it may become illegal outside. Cities are already passing bills to ban smoking outside.

Psilocybin mushrooms and Cannabis are also part of cultures around the world.
Why do you think eastern cultures worship cows?
Unfortunately these are both illegal.

Smoking will never become illegal in the U.S. because its part of our history. In the early 1700s people grew tobacco and we have had it ever since. The government though has been putting a lot of restrictions on smoking and sometime later no one will smoke but it will still be legal.
Yo missed the point - the movie is not about taking sides (which you say it should have done) - the movie is about SPIN.
The movie is about the ability to spin any topic to make your position appear to be the correct one. In this case, defending the indefensible, big tobacco, and still coming out looking like the smartest guy in the room.
WH Macey's character is not an idiot, but appears foolish when out-witted with words by "Nick Naylor".

I guess you r wrong... the movie does realy have a point an dthat is freedom of choice by picking one of the most polemic topics fo nowadays... "smoking"... actually..now that everybody knows it's bad.. we all have the right to chose wether to smoke or not...so the movie also very critical about this hipocrisy serounded the whole debate against smoking... when we all know life may offer you lots of unhealthy habits.. at this moment consideres normal...
