@shariotoflove haha of course, I'm but a lowly fan of baroque and coutertenors, and you are much wiser and knowledgeable! I would love to have heard him live, my teacher did, many years back and said that his technique was mindblowing, but his voice just can't compete with countertenors from nowadays I'm sorry! He was an amazing virtuoso in his time, and as you say, he paved the way so that others could continue in his footprints and go farther than he could ever imagine!

@Guichotpresident you opinion doesnt count for much apart from your own personal preferences. Deller paved way for the Jarousskys and Scholls, and if he were alive today, would grace many concerts with the rest bowing in respect! the best English Baroque countertenor is without a doubt Deller.

@shariotoflove haha its a question of taste, but the harsh truth is simply that he was an early countertenor and was a pioneer but he can't really compete with nowadays' Andreas Scholl, Max-Emmanuel Cencic or Philippe Jaroussky in my opinion... The only song he ever sung that transfixed me was Music for a while, which was absolutely mindblowing in my opinion...
