Yep, it's 'Visions of Johanna'. The verses are, anyway. I wonder if that's why he didn't release it? It's a lovely song, anyway.

woah...by far the best version ive heard. really wraps you up into the whole story in a much more intimate way.

Love this and the 78-version of this song! Bruce is amazing.

@bulbheadmyass Warren wrote the first verse ( his recorded version) and Bruce finished the song

Personally I prefer Warren's version, but this is pretty good.

anyone else hear the dylan influence here?

why does this sound like the record player should be spinning just a tad faster?
early 70's sounds right as this sounds like something that would've been on Greetings...
Lyrics and ideas from this are used elsewhere...on the tip of my tongue the reference to almost walking into that church...
I'm typing as I'm listening to this...his whisper gutterings also remind me of "hey boy...you wanna try the Big Top?". -Wild & the Innocent...

Thanks, faustofan, that explains it.
This is incredible. Where is this from? Is it on a bootleg? When do you think it was recorded?

This particular piano demo was recorded in 1972 or 1973. It is on a couple bootlegs from that early time period. One may be on a bootleg called "The Unsurpassed Springsteen Vol. 6." There is also a version that was recorded for the Darkness album, which is a heavy full-band version.

Love this song. I knew this as a Warren Zevon song. It seems like Bruce is singing more verses than Warren. Anyone know the background on that?

The only thing I know about the history is that these 1972 lyrics are different than the 1978 version lyrics by Springsteen. The '78 version is more heavy and full band. Thats the only history I know of this one.
