One question, i use packet radio on vhf 145.010mhz and we use nodes that are digital repeaters, we use keyboards to send and recieve transmissions from other stations, some over 400klms away, what purpose does APRS serve other then just beaconing and saying" hey im over here", the APRS frequency is on a totally different frequency then regular keyboard paket operations are on. It seems to be a total waste of NETWORK equipment for emergencies when that problem may pop up.? cool tho!

Finally a computer oriented group that is recognizing how amateur radio can be coupled to computing. Getting an amateur license is so easy anymore - 35 question test (have to get 26 Q's right to pass) and no morse code to learn anymore. I had a novice license back in the 70's that needed code 5 wpm and enjoyed it then let it expire and lost interest - 35 yrs later I'm testing for a new license and going to incorporate APRS, Packet, PSK31, HELL, and other computer-radio combinations with it.
