Yup, I agree! Albeit sodiums are much more effecient...but who cares! Mercs seem to warm the soul. Heck, I though I was the only guy who likes mercs; glad to see that I'm not.
When I was a kid, I used to luv watch'n
'em turn on...and I still do! Got 2 of 'em on my property. Why the gov't had to ban these is beyond me--stupid gov't anyhow!
Anyway, nice vid of the 1957 Westinghouse OV25 Silverliner! Long live the merc (despite the gov't)!
in some places they still maintain these old fixtures, thats a good thing, since they were of a better quality than today's fixtures, and those mercury vapor lamps are far more reliable than high pressure sodium or metal halide, yet they banned the manufacture and inport in the usa.
I agree although in big cities the yellow sodiums do help with smog and fog at night where the white mercury just lit it up more. LED street lamps eat 1/10th the power but are mucho expensive right now but once they are refined and come down in price we might be able to have white light again but hardly the power consumption.
Luv to! Put up some vids and/or pics.

i love the soft white flourescent light mercury vapor produces. mercury vapor beats high-pressure sodium.
