Yeah when I first listened to Switchfoot's album Hello Hurricane I couldn't believe it. Sure they may have written it subconciously ... but surely someone could have mentioned it to them that Always is Ocean Floor. It's crazy that Always made the album and didn't get cut in the recording process.
@thatguymegaman I know! That's my same line of thinking. It's one thing to "subconsciously" write a song that sounds similar to another (hey, it happens), but when you go to play it for others, you would think producers, managers, friends, family...SOMEONE would say, "Uh, hey...this sounds a LOT like Ocean Floor." Once it becomes "consciously" known, I honestly feel its a uncool to keep pursuing the song without scrapping it or at least changing it.
mnijaw. FWIW I have friends that have written multi million sellers. He told me that often one song inspires another song and hopefully changes enough that they don't sound the same. Sometimes a writer subconsciously makes a song that they think they created themselves. My guess that is what happened with Ocean Floor and Always. I hear quite a few songs that fall into the sounds like category. That said. Both are independently great songs that make emotional connections in different ways.
@Papparratzi Thank you. :) If I helped just ONE person with the sound alike riddle, it makes it all worth it. ;) Yeah, the similarities are unavoidably noticeable.

@Papparratzi Yeah, I bet (Ecclesiastes 1:9). Agreed about both songs being great.

Good job, when I heard ocean floor this morning I said to my daughters I know this sounds familiar. You solved the sounds alike riddle for me.
