    you guys saying 2+2 = 5 you know you're actually right if it was in a different base system (besides base 10). (i.e. 2+2 = 10 in base 4) We just always assume you're talking about base 10.. Kids really should know that base 10 isn't the ONLY system we could use for math. You could use base 12 (in fact many people would prefer it to base 10), or any finite number; we just use base 10 because, well its easy for us because we have 10 fingers so it's easier for us to count and its symmetrical.

    Before teaching addition you have to teach what the " + " and " = " mean. When teaching basic concepts, you can't assume any prior knowledge.
