Jean-Baptiste Barrière (1704-1747), French composer and one of the finiest French cellists of his time. His 4 books for cello represent probably the largest collection of works written for the instrument at the time, surpassed later by Boccherini of course. The works present various technical challenges but are highly idiomatic and sensuous.
