As Helen Schucman's trusted friend and colleague, Dr. William Thetford assisted and supported Dr. Schucman throughout the scribing of A Course in Miracles including the events that led up to it.

Read a 1984 Interview of Bill Thetford:
http://www.theworkbook.org/thetford.htm
Briefly, what do you think the Course's purpose is?
THETFORD: To help us change our minds about who we are and what God is, and to help us let go, through forgiveness, our belief in the reality of our separation from God. Learning how to forgive ourselves and others is really the fundamental teaching of the Course. The Course teaches us how to know ourselves and how to unlearn all of those things which interfere with our recognition of who we are and always have been.

Mayo Clinic Story
http://www.theworkbook.org/church.htm
Between 1965 and 1972, Dr. Thetford not only acted as transcriber by typing the material from the notes that Dr. Schucman had taken down through a process of inner dictation and would dictate to him almost daily, but was also a tremendous psychological support to Helen as she struggled with her feelings of imposition and her basic mistrust of the process.
William Thetford, Ph.D. was a Professor of Medical Psychology at Columbia University, and Director of the Psychology Dept. at the Presbyterian Hospital.
Those that knew Bill talked about the quality of his voice. Very pleasant indeed. What a shame he didn't think he was a good teacher or Professor. He did have an outstanding career as a Psychologist nonetheless . Just as well he didn't get trapped by that. It was the "sidebar" work that was truly valuable !

I have been a student of the Course sinse 1978. I can never seem to get enough of its history and its teachings. I am so gratefull to have You Tube as a teaching source for Kenneth Wapnick who keeps the story straight
