  • I see you don't have the information about what this program was proposing to do. Are you in the trade Scott? If you like I can point you to where you can read little more about what this "program" was billed as and what some skeptics feel it truly is and what it will do to the status of licensed unionized electricians wherever such "sub classes" are implemented. My opinion... a big smoke screen and shameless con job attempt with a hidden agenda. It didn't work.

  • One of the fundamental principles of unionism fairness and equality. The issue is, does a trade union that represent licensed electricians want to create sub classes in that trade that do work for less. I would say that I am in favour of any licensed electrician in the IBEW being treated equally and not categorized and made to sign some sort of contract to work under other than the principle collective agreement. Having "sub classes" working under the collective agreement is "union busting"

  • Are you missing the point by choosing to refer to a criticism of an undermining of union principles as elitist or as anti immigrant electricians? Local 353 is full of people that came from other countries and we have never treated as anything other than equals in the past so why would anyone get sucked into allowing something called the Internationally Trained electrician Bridging Program? Why would you be in favour of allowing a 30 year electrician to be paid less and undermine your union?

  • @scott7788able I like your attitude and all, and I agree with you in theory, but these programs aren't being introduced because they want to be fair and give people chances. I was speaking to one our hypocrite 353 officers one day and he told me that they would be started at a much lower wage and work their way up. Pre-App program, ITE program...these are all just ways to bring in cheap labour to keep the union competitive with the non-union and anyone who denies that is naive.

  • Give everyone a fair and equal chance and stop being so elitist. The video talks of democracy and disenfranchisement, however you are promoting a "closed shop" and surely this flies in the face of all that we consider to be democratic? Canada is a meritocracy where the best in their fields rise to the top regardless of race, gender, background and immigration status. Get use to it.

  • Is this racism or xenophobia regarding the International Bridging Program? What are we afraid of here? "Cheap" foreigners stealing jobs? So, if a someone moves here from the UK, for example, with 30 years experience in the industry, why shouldn't they be allowed to work as a spark here? Who says they are going to work for cheaper rates? What evidence do you have of this? Perhaps we should stop all immigration and keep Canada for Canadians?

  • This could be my local they are talking about. The heirs to the throne have been handed have been basically handed power for 45 years and once in office cannot be beaten. Time for change brothers and sisters of 145!

  • @aqinthe shut the fuck up, ya try to sound intelligent but Yara KNOWS yer just a FUCKTARD! ;o)

  • Great video. The union has gone non union for lack of a better term. Construction Electricians are here to stay. Sad to say. I was always told how past members fought for better wages and retirement. Now the IBEW has gone the opposite way.
