Streamlined Backshop Services present a sample of the installation services available for your DCC project. This project utilizes a Digitrax SDN144K0A decoder for motor control, light functions, and sound. A Bi-Color 3mm LED has been installed to illuminate the front headlight. The LED is wired to function as a dimmable headlight, a white MARS light or a red MARS light. The sound system features a single 14x25mm speaker mounted in the fuel tank. Just for fun, I borrowed and sound meter from work to measure this guy. At 10 ft, it produces 40 db; at 3 ft it produces 55 db. The sound file is a generic diesel sound project available from the Digitrax Sound Depot that I modified to include a set of E8 horns and bell. I chose this one because the prime moversound in the file had decent sound quality. Also be sure to compare the sound in this video to the sound car video on my channel. This is a good reference of the difference between Soundtraxx, ESU Loksound, Digitrax and MRC sound.

  • Hey there kknscale,

Thanks for your interest and inquiry. I replace the stock speaker for better volume which requires a frame mod. I find a capacitor is necessary for decent performance too. I mill a spot in the frame for this as well. I don't use many of the MRC chips due to many shortcomings. The install requires milling the frame which is a service I can also offer. Glad you enjoy the videos. Feel free to contact me at sales@sbs4dcc.com to discuss your project.

    Regards, Bryan

  • I enjoy your videos very much.

I just installed an SDN144k0a on my Kato E8 according to the instruction. However, I am disappointed by no prime mover sound and low volume level. I also found that a 330uF cap is definitely needed for motor stability. Some of my MRC sound decoders are better than this one. I would appreciate it if you can suggest good idea to correct my problems. Thanks.
